Iqra Muslim Maha Vidyalaya is situated in the village of Ulappanai in the Kandy District of the Central Province of Sri Lanka. In 2004, 2007 as a milestone in the development of the school, general education high quality art trade classes were started. As a result, the students got the opportunity to go to the university and the necessary resources for the school started getting available.

    Currently the school is functioning well with 35 teachers and around 650 students. It has been the leading school at the zonal level on the basis of national level examination results. It is a matter of concern that even though permission was given to start a high quality mathematics and science department when it was a provincial school, it could not be started till date due to lack of necessary financial and human resources. As a result, the students who appear for the General Standard Ordinary Level Examination and obtain high results have to go to neighboring schools for Mathematics, Science and Technology subjects in the General Standard High Standard.

Last year, our school was included among the thousand intermediate schools that have received Cabinet approval to implement the school development program to provide better educational facilities to students nationwide. Based on that, initial activities are currently being carried out. Also efforts are being made by the School Development Association and the School Management Committee to adapt the school to twenty-first century learning. In addition, a term law is prepared and implemented to carry out annual evaluation to raise the quality of the school.

Since the end of 2019, the effects of the corona virus, which has turned the world upside down, are innumerable. Due to this, all schools in Sri Lanka were temporarily closed from March 2020. Due to this, the education of lakhs of students was greatly affected. Our school is no exception to this, although WhatsApp, Zoom technologies and distance education system are used as an alternative to this, the program has not been as successful as expected due to the lack of equipment among the students.

·              People have been facing many problems for about a year due to many problems like economic crisis and lack of job opportunities that our country is currently facing. Also, various sectors have been greatly affected by the general shutdown. In that way, the education sector has also suffered a major decline. This made it possible to observe that our school students are having difficulty in getting the essential materials needed for learning. For this, remedial work projects are being carried out with the help of School Development Association, School Management Committee, School Teachers and the well-off people in the town.
